I just LOVE the way they smell...

Smoke at the top. Smoke and Spud's nose

Turbo (a wee bit fat)

and Sunny

Too bad I'm allergic. When I ride them I have to wear gloves and make sure I don't touch my face. ( I actually haven't ridden in a long time) Even when I pet them I have to make sure I wash right after but I still love them. I think they are the most beautifully created animal. They are smart and usually kind if handled well. I just love to see them standing in a green pasture somewhere. I really do love the way they smell. I thought I would break away from my usual post and introduce you to some of our horses. In another post I will have to show you Knightly, Trigger ,Spud and Nellie. My husband loves to pack into the mountains with 2 or 3 of them at a time and spend a couple of days. He's taken me with him a few times and it really is great. My rear end sure gets sore going downhill on the trail though.

June, your horses are just BEAUTIFUL!!! I myself can't seem to find a connection to horses, they are just too big and powerful for me, but my oldest daughter LOVES horses and has been riding since she was 8 or 9. She competes in riding events, her whole life centers around horses, she just is not happy unless she can spend some time each day in the company of one. And she too LOVES the way they smell!! We don't own any ourselves, but she has free rein (excuse the pun) with all the horses at the riding school/stalls, and even helps the teacher there train the new ones. Right now she is working with a wonderful and very large horse called Garantee, who was mistreated as a young horse and has no trust in people. My daughter and her riding teacher have gotten the horse emotionally built up and now the horses follows them around like a puppy. And you can see "life" in her eyes again, something one did not see last year when she first came here. I am always amazed at the horses' personalities.

I was just at a blog where this lady has horses too. Horses are amazing animals and yours looks like they receive a lot of love. Being allergic is to bad, but I can relate to it. My husband is allergic to birds and that doesn't stop him loving ours.

I love the smell too - it's many years since I owned my own horses but I love to take any and every opportunity to get close to them. Amazing creatures and just full of intelligence! Your horses are beautiful and I envy you being able to look out at them every day. Warm wishes and please give them a pat from me... Vxx

Your horses are beautiful! I believe that horses are the most beautiful of all God's creatures. I love to watch them galloping across a pasture or hear the soft crunching as they eat hay after they have been fed early in the morning hours. I love the smell of the saddles and the horses. I have been an equestrian for most of my life. My horse would have been 37 years old this Friday. She passed two years ago. Thanks for sharing your horses with me:)

Hi Debby, I'm so proud of your daughter for putting the time into making Garantee's life better. That is wonderful that she has been able to enjoy the horses at the stable and help out there. Horses truely have personalities all there own. I am delighted that your daughter is able to be around them so much because they certainly can be very loving friends.

Veronica, I cetainly will give them all a pat for you and then wash my hands very well. They really are the most intelligent of animals. When you think about the fact that it was only a little over a century ago we depended on them for all our farming and travel. They certainly deserve our love and respect.

Dear Victorian Parlor, Isn't it interesting how many of us feel a tie to these wonderful creatures. You were truely blessed to have enjoyed your friend for so many years.Ah yes, the smell of the leather in the tack barn.

How sad that you have to wear gloves and miss out on those soft, velvety noses!
